Kate Heartfield

Kate Heartfield is the author of several historical fantasy novels, including The Tapestry of Time, The Valkyrie, The Chatelaine and The Embroidered Book. She has been a Nebula nominee for best novella (Alice Payne Arrives, 2019) and three times in the game writing category (The Road to Canterbury, 2019; The Magician’s Workshop, 2020; and A Death in Hyperspace (co-writer), 2025). She has also written two tie-in novels for the Assassin’s Creed videogame world. Her fiction has been shortlisted for the Locus, Aurora, Sunburst, World Fantasy, Crawford, Scribe, British Science Fiction Association and Ottawa Book awards, and she has won the Aurora Award for best novel three times. A former newspaper journalist, Kate lives in Ottawa, Canada, where she teaches journalism and creative writing and works as a freelance writer.
