Sophie Goldstein
Sophie Goldstein is graphic novelist, writer, illustrator and comics instructor living in Tulsa, OK.
Her most recent book is Flash Forward: An Illustrated Guide to Possible (And Not So Possible) Tomorrows (Abrams, 2021), a collection of comics and science essays written by Rose Eveleth and co-edited by Sophie Goldstein and Matt Lubchansky. Her graphic novels include An Embarrassment of Witches (2020) with Jenn Jordan from Top Shelf Productions, House of Women (2017) from Fantagraphics Books, The Oven (2015) from AdHouse Books, which won two Ignatz awards and was nominated for Slate Magazine’s Cartoonist Studio Prize and Darwin Carmichael is Going to Hell (2013), also with Jenn Jordan. Her comics and illustration clients include the New York Times Magazine, Best American Comics 2013, Fable Comics, The Pitchfork Review, Cicada Magazine and The Nib.
Sophie has taught and lectured at many institutions including the Columbus College of Arts and Design and The Animation Workshop in Denmark, the Solstice MFA in Creative Writing Program, the Chicago Institute of Art and the Carnegie Public Library. She is a Core Faculty member at Lesley University’s Graphic Novel & Comics Low-Residency Creative Writing MFA Program.
Her art has been exhibited in group shows at the Toonseum, the Turchin Center for the Visual Arts, Anno Domini, the Syosset Public Library and The Center for Cartoon Studies.
