Alexis Brooks de Vita
Descended from the chattel enslaved and the ousted British along the northeastern coastline English colonies in the earliest years of the 1700s, the Lenni Lenape whom they met there and the Muskogee with whom they escaped captivity in Mississippi, born in the Watts Projects shortly before the Riots, Alexis moved with her mother and brother to Uganda just as Idi Amin staged his bloody military coup. She writes to exorcise these quintessentially American demons.
