There are a number of ways to participate in SFWA events for members and non-members alike. This page will host information on all of our open calls for staffing, volunteering, and pitching for SFWA events.

2021 Nebulas Conference

Programming: PItches and panelists

The Programming Committee for the 2021 Nebula Conference Online is issuing a call for additional programming proposals and volunteer panelists.

You can find the preview of the conference’s programming items here. Your proposals should be geared toward professional science fiction and fantasy authors and writers aspiring to become one. Keep in mind that our members come from many different storytelling mediums: games, novels, short stories, novellas, novelettes, screenplays and soon, graphic novel and comic writers too. Try to suggest topics that will be of use to writers from those backgrounds. You may also suggest yourself or recommend other panelists for the previewed program topics or new ones. Panel proposals must be received by March 15 to be considered, and panelists recommendations by April 1. Both panelist and panel proposals can be submitted on this form.

2021 Nebulas Conference

Office hours hosts

The Nebulas Conference Office Hours Coordinators are in search of knowledgeable people willing to volunteer one hour to give four 15 minute teleconference interviews, pitch sessions or critiques. Offering your expertise to other writers is a great way to pay forward on the help and advice you’ve received (and will probably continue to receive)!

Because we’re online, you don’t have to be registered for the Nebulas (or a SFWA member) to participate as a host, and you can be anywhere in the world. The office hours will take place on Friday, June 4, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Pacific Time.

Writers, editors and agents are welcome, but we need all kinds of expertise for our curious attendees. If you’re a scientist, a medical professional, web designer, combat specialist, a professional marketing strategist, or an underwater basket weaver – we want your know-how! For those hosts who choose to offer critiques, work will be capped at 1,000 words and provided for reading ahead of time.
If you are interested in volunteering as a host, please fill out this form before March 31. And thank you!
